Turnitin is a tool integrated into Canvas that helps instructors check student submissions for plagiarism and AI-assisted writing. The originality report checks for similarity between the student’s work and Internet content as well as other students’ submissions. It also identifies how much of a student’s submission is likely to be authentic, human writing versus AI-assisted writing. However, it cannot detect student misconduct on its own. Instructors need to use their professional judgment, their knowledge of their students, and the context of the assignment to make that decision.
This session provides an overview of TurnItIn's capabilities. You'll learn how to enable Turnitin on assignments and how students upload their work to use Turnitin and what the feedback looks like.
