Welcome to the 2023 Employee Mandatory Training Bundle
These online training modules are mandated for employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia by the Code of Virginia, Executive Orders, or DHRM policies. Ensuring you are knowledgeable of and in compliance with these regulations reduces our risk and improves our working environment. The nine mandatory modules are:

Hybrid or blended courses integrate both face-to-face class meetings and online teaching and learning activities. To teach a hybrid course at NOVA, you are required to be hybrid certified. The hybrid certification course is four weeks in length and is conducted online in Canvas. It is entirely online and asynchronous with hands-on learning activities, but does require participants to meet course/assignment deadlines. Please note that you must have basic knowledge of Canvas to successfully complete the hybrid certification course.
Upon successful completion of this online course, participants will be able to:

This session will introduce you to the accessibility tools in Microsoft Office and how to use them to make your digital workplace more inclusive for all. The session will focus on the accessibility tools in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

This session covers the most commonly used features of the MS365 Calendar at NOVA. Learn how to share your calendar with your teammates , create appointments in your MS 365 Outlook Calendar using the Scheduling Assistant and how to utilize the To Do list feature.

This session begins with a quick overview tour of Microsoft Office 365 Email. Learn how to create an auto-reply for when you’re out of office, how to use folders and rules to keep organized, how to use the to-do list feature. Participants will also have time to make sure their email signatures meets NOVA guidelines.

Part 1: In this session we’ll work in a custom Sandbox designed to walk you through the process of building a well designed Canvas course. We’ll start with a home page and go over the basics of using the Rich Content Editor to add custom text and icons to a Home Page. You'll learn some options for uploading your Syllabus. We’ll discuss the course navigation and how to streamline it for your course. We’ll discuss the purpose of Modules and help you build one yourself. We’ll use Student View to review what we built and cover the when and how of publishing content. We’ll wrap up Canvas 101 with building an assignment and posting an announcement.
Part 2: In the second half of Teaching in Canvas at NOVA, we will continue where we left off by building out an Assignment Shell, submitting as a student, and then grading and providing feedback on those submissions using the grading tool, Speedgrader. We'll look at the Gradebook and discuss the Assignment Index Tab.
Throughout the session we’ll have opportunities for hands-on work. It is completely optional. If your course is blue-printed, you might just want to pick and choose what activities you want to participate in.

Walk through the steps necessary to successfully close out your gradebook, attendance, and course at the end of the term. Learn how to verify that the grading policy in Canvas matches your syllabus, ensure that all assignments are in the proper assignment group and graded, finalize grades and export your gradebook, export your attendance records. We’ll discuss course access and the settings needed for any Incompletes.

In addition to an overview of the Gradebook dashboard, this session will address how the Assignments Index is directly related to the Gradebook. Learn about the different options for viewing the Gradebook, the Missing/Late grading policy and Grade Posting policy, and options for filtering the Gradebook data. We’ll also view the Gradebook from a student’s perspective.

This is a comprehensive, step-by-step, hands-on webinar that focuses on importing existing content from other sources such as from a previous term course or template course to build the new term course. This session will show you how to import only the content wanted from a previous course and how to validate the links in the content brought in. We'll cover course settings and course navigation, options for your syllabus and setting the Homepage. We will take a look at the Assignment Index Page and Gradebook to ensure it matches your syllabus policies. We will discuss the benefits of using Modules briefly, look at how to set up Zoom sessions in Canvas if needed, and make sure to view the course through Student view prior to publishing the course.
